Our History

At the end of 1996 and early into 1997, a group of Christian youth leaders working in Cambridge and the surrounding villages began to meet for prayer, to get to know each other and to encourage each other. Out of these gatherings came "Expression".

Under this name, youth worship events were run, 5 weeks of intensive schools work with Youth for Christ were undertaken (Sept '97, Sept '98, Sept '99, June '01), various training opportunities were offered, youth residentials took place, and collaboration on a number of other events including Rave in the Nave.

In January 2001, a proposal to establish Cambridge & District Youth for Christ was set before a gathering of 60 local church leaders representing 40 churches and Christian organisations. This proposal had been put together by a group of local Christians with a heart for reaching young people with the good news of Jesus Christ. Following much prayer, and 'ground work', it was felt right to officially launch the centre in March 2002. At that time we were still to employ a Director, but launched in faith that God would provide the right person at the right time. The former "Expression" worship event had since evolved into "RE.son8", with new leadership and fresh ideas, happening under the YFC banner.

The role of Cambridge & District Youth for Christ is to help resource the local churches in reaching and teaching these young people, and helping to resource the young people to make a difference with their friends, and in their schools, as well as looking for opportunities to reach the other 92% of young people directly with the gospel. As a Christian Agency, YFC is here to serve the Churches and schools of the City, and the surrounding area, by training local youth workers and being a resource to young people, youth groups, schools, Christian Unions ... the list goes on!

But did you know that Cambridge young people were meeting together in the name of YFC way back in the 1950's? Click
