The Heart of Worship!

Why do we worship?

What is its purpose?

Is it to get that spiritual high that we've needed so much all week?

To come and be filled up again?

Or is it something much more?

Worship is an everyday occurrence. Worship consumes us. Everything we do and say should be an act of praise to God. Worship is not for us, it is an offering of our whole lives to God, no matter what our situation, or how we feel, we come before our Saviour and surrender all.

Ok lets take Job for example. This guy is an “Honest and innocent man” who “honoured God and stayed away from evil.” (verse 1) Now Job was a wealthy guy, God had blessed Him in many ways. So he has no problem being able to worship God, because he's been blessed beyond measure. The true testing point for Job comes when God allows the devil to take this stuff away from him, and kill his family.

Suddenly Jobs faith is tested to the max.

Job's life suddenly goes from great, to disaster zone in a matter of verses.

So what does this honest man of God do, I mean what would you do? Job has honoured Him all his life, been honest, and is innocent, and suddenly it seems God has just taken everything he loved in his life away from him.

Does he get angry at God?

Does he shout at Him?

Does Job turn his back on God?

No

Job falls to his knees in worship and says

“ The Lord gives and the Lord takes away...let the name of the Lord be praised”
(Job 1 v 21)
